About

Women’s Outdoor Connection: Where Adventure Begins Together

For every woman who’s ever thought, “I’d love to try that, but who would I go with?” the Women’s Outdoor Connection is the answer. It’s where women gather to find adventure buddies, share stories, and discover outdoor opportunities in the Pacific Northwest.

The first event in October 2023 brought together 175 women, quickly showing it was something special. It has grown into a full-blown conference with breakout sessions, icebreakers, raffle, and games. The event has become a trusted resource where women feel welcome, find community, and inspire each other to explore new adventures.

The vision began in 2017 when founder, Andrea Hamilton attended a small Seattle event for outdoorsy women to meet women’s outdoor groups. Andrea saw the potential—what if more women could experience this? What if there was a bigger space for women to connect and learn about these groups?

Women often struggle to find others who share their interests. Andrea experienced this herself. Life pulled her away from skiing, but in 2011, while commemorating her late husband’s birthday on the slopes, she met two women instructors who recruited her to teach. The next year, she started teaching skiing and rediscovered the joy and community that she was missing.

Fast forward to October 2023, that early vision came to life and with the help of family and friends, the inaugural event was launched. Andrea and the team created a gathering where women could find their place in the outdoors.

But turning this vision into reality wasn’t without its challenges. Andrea wasn’t just organizing an event; she was rebuilding her confidence and finding a new purpose. Skiing and the new friends she made on the slopes helped her navigate a difficult time. This inspired her to help other women find their path to adventure.

This event isn’t just about Andrea’s journey; it’s about you, the women who attend. You’re the heart of this gathering, coming to find new friends, adventures, and experiences. The partner groups play a vital role as guides and mentors, eager to grow their memberships and share their knowledge. Together, we all create a collaborative environment where everyone benefits.

Beyond the event, the Women’s Outdoor Connection impacts the community by raising funds for Mary’s Place of Seattle, supporting women and families in need. The true measure of success lies in the stories of attendees: “I left inspired and motivated to stay active and involved in the outdoor community,” and “The opportunity to meet new people and discover exciting local outdoor organizations was fantastic.”

At the Women’s Outdoor Connection, women become the heroes of their own stories. They come to connect, explore, and find adventure—and leave with so much more.
